A best-of-breed architecture: Dekker Hout chooses Magento & Commerce 365

Dekker Hout is a Dutch family-owned business (founded in 1885) and part of Koninklijke Dekker. The company supplies timber and construction materials to professionals in industry, construction, and retail, and is known for its strong focus on sustainability, with FSC and PEFC certification, in-house energy generation, and full supply chain control.

With a broad product range, customer-specific agreements, and complex B2B processes, Dekker Hout has clear ecommerce ambitions. However, their previous setup — Sana Commerce combined with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central — increasingly fell short of supporting their growth plans.

Scope
Integrating a new Adobe Commerce store with an existing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment using Commerce 365 for Magento and the industry-specific Acadon Timber 365 add-on.

From Sana to Adobe Commerce: ready for the next phase

In their previous setup, Dekker Hout used Sana Commerce. However, this never fully met their expectations and felt like a solution that didn’t align with their ecommerce ambitions. Due to the closed platform model and partner structure, all communication had to go through the ERP partner, and direct coordination with Sana was not part of the setup. This created additional dependency and delays, while structural improvements were difficult to realise.

Dekker Hout therefore decided to move to a specialised web agency and a specialised integration partner. This flexibility, combined with Magento’s richer ecommerce capabilities, gave Dekker Hout the freedom to build a setup that truly fits their organisation.

With this, Dekker Hout consciously moved to a best-of-breed architecture, allowing them to select the best specialist solutions for each part of their ecosystem.

The choice fell on Magento / Adobe Commerce combined with Commerce 365 for Magento by NVision. That decision was partly driven by positive experiences of other Acadon customers with NVision and Commerce 365 for Magento, industry-specific functionality through the Acadon timber module, and the confidence that this was the most future-proof integration approach.

A complex integration with multiple specialists

For this project, Dekker Hout collaborated with several partners:

The scope involved connecting two Magento stores to the existing Business Central environment via Commerce 365 for Magento - B2B.

As with many enterprise ecommerce projects, a multi-party setup requires strong coordination. Especially in an environment with complex B2B functionality, such as customer-specific pricing agreements and an extensive customer portal, this demands a mature implementation approach. Thanks to clear role distribution, Dekker Hout was able to rely on each partner’s expertise.

The NVision integration was experienced as very stable and reliable. Issues were generally well identified and resolved, even when this occasionally required a new product release.

Commerce 365 by NVision is a highly valuable integration. While some basic functionalities could be developed by us as part of the project, the same does not apply to more complex features — such as real-time, customer-specific pricing. As a result, the solution significantly reduces both development costs and project timelines.

In addition, they were flexible in accommodating Dekker Hout’s specific requirements, and even introduced new functionalities within their Adobe Commerce integration. It was a great collaboration, and we would definitely recommend NVision for similar projects!

From pilot to production: a smooth go-live

To reduce risk, Dekker Hout opted for a soft launch with around ten existing customers participating in a pilot phase. These customers were approached in advance and were willing to test and provide feedback, allowing improvements to be identified before the official go-live.

This approach proved successful: during the final go-live in November 2025, hardly any manual intervention was needed. The integration was activated and monitored, after which the platform continued to run stably.

 

Stability, scalability, and trust in the integration

Since go-live, Commerce 365 for Magento has become a stable and reliable foundation within Dekker Hout’s IT landscape.

Complex scenarios — such as net pricing combined with customer-specific discounts that must be correctly reflected on invoices — have been successfully implemented, which is essential for their B2B processes.

NVision’s support has been well received throughout the project. In addition to project guidance, the Dekker Hout team followed several targeted training sessions, including general user training and sales training. These sessions provided step-by-step insight into the Business Central environment with Commerce 365 functionality, like publishing and managing products, and processing customers and orders.

This structured approach enabled the team to work independently and ensured they were fully prepared for go-live.

Beyond the technical implementation, NVision’s project approach also played an important role. Clear agreements upfront, realistic time estimates, and transparent invoicing gave Dekker Hout full control over planning and budget.

Akeneo combined with NVision PIM: full flexibility

In addition to ecommerce and integration, product information management played a key role in Dekker Hout’s architectural decisions. While the built-in PIM functionality within Commerce 365 for Magento is sufficient for many companies, Dekker Hout required more advanced capabilities, such as richer product content, adding custom fields, and the ability to share product data with other systems.

Partly due to less favorable experiences with the ERP-based PIM in the Sana setup, and with future plans in mind — such as an external customer portal — Dekker Hout chose Akeneo as their PIM system.

Commerce 365 for Magento fits seamlessly into this: the NVision solution includes a built-in PIM module, but also works perfectly with external PIM systems. This allows organisations to choose what best fits their scale and ambitions. As a result, this became an even stronger example of a best-of-breed setup.

For Dekker Hout, this meant full freedom in their PIM choice, without compromising the stability of the Magento–Business Central integration.

A solid foundation for future growth

Thanks to Adobe Commerce, integrated with Business Central via Commerce 365 for Magento — B2B, Dekker Hout now has a stable ecommerce architecture that aligns with their organisation and future plans. Where the previous setup felt like a limitation, the current solution provides room for further optimisation and growth.

Although online ordering represents only part of their overall B2B sales process, ecommerce is now firmly embedded within their IT landscape, supported by an integration that is scalable, reliable, and ready for future development.
